First run of 2016

Yesterday, I went for a run.  It was my first one of 2016 – I had a break over Christmas because of a cold and, well, just because.  It was okay – I did 20 minutes very slowwwwwwly but will get faster soon enough.  I’ve eaten (and drunk) far too much over Christmas and don’t feel as fit and strong as I would like.

It was a beautiful day – sunny and cold.  The New River was frozen, although I am not sure that this has come out all that well in my pictures.

New River Walk at the end of Autumn

The other day, we were having a walk along the New River.  Some of the leaves are still on the trees but most have fallen – we’re due a bit more rain tonight and tomorrow so that will probably get the rest of them to fall.

I’m really enjoying wearing my new snowboots, now that it’s getting a bit colder.  Plus I love buying things in the sale and then using them a lot – it makes me feel savvy and not at all profligate.

Running with a four year old

This afternoon, my son and I went for a run.  I like to run by myself but my son got upset when I pulled my trainers on and insisted that he was a “fast runner and will win the race”.  It ended up being okay, if a little bit slow.  I am on week two of the podcasts so it is walking for five minutes, running for 90 seconds, walking for two minutes, running for 90 seconds – you get the idea.

Because I run along the New River Walk, I was a bit worried that my son would fall into the river but he managed not to.  It was a nice thing to do and better than sitting around watching YouTube (our previous activity) but perhaps I’ll go by myself next time.

New River Walk

This morning, I went for a run along the New River Walk.  This is a really nice spot and looks terrific now that the leaves are changing colour.  You would never think that you were in central London.

Quite a few people walk their dogs and push buggies along the path but it is easily wide enough to pass them by.  I also saw one very smartly dressed woman picking up her dog’s shit, which I totally approve of.
