Clinique

Our local Boots (the one at Angel) has been expanded – the Burger King shut down and they took it over.  It took YEARS but now it’s done it looks great.  I was technically in there to look at new toothbrushes but I went and had a little looky look at the Clinique stuff.

Now, I used to have a sheer lipstick by them called Sweet Honey – however that was about 15 years ago and it’s been discontinued (the nice lady had never even heard of it – I am old).

Violet Berry Soft Shine – it’s nowhere near as dark as it looks here

Now, I don’t like proper lipstick – too claggy – and I have a special hatred for lipgloss (ugh).  This sheer stuff is pretty nice though.  The nice lady was helpful and pointed out that the colour I’d tried just before this one was exactly the same as my natural lip colour.  It was but as I was tired / still a bit poorly / bad tempered, my lips were much paler than usual and the overall effect was a bit too light (I don’t really suit dark eye make up and light lipstick, mainly because I have small piggy eyes).

I like this colour a lot – it’s a bit more subtle than the lip stain I’ve been wearing.

Jo Malone

The other day I was at the dentist (I love my dentist, he fixed a chip in my front tooth and it looks so much better) and afterwards passed Jo Malone.  I actually restrained myself from going in and buying yet more scent because (1) I need to use up some of what I have first and (2) I can’t really afford it.  Getting my laptop fixed was about £300.

Black satin

My purple nail varnish was a bit chipped (too much washing up), so I redid them in Chanel’s Black Satin (which, amazingly, you can still buy).

It is a bit too Goth for me but I like it, despite being 37.  Perhaps I can pretend to be an Emo.  My only real complaint is that my left hand (the one I do first) has opaque black colour while my right has fair more transparent colour – presumably this is because the pigment is not evenly distributed.  Perhaps my bottle is rather old.  I’m sure it won’t bother anyone but me.

Diamond Life

So I redid my nails – for once not in Chanel.  I bought this one a couple of years ago so it has now been discontinued.

I like it – the metallic lilac would look great at a party and it isn’t likely to clash with many of my clothes.  It is slightly Drag Queen-y (although I don’t see anything wrong with that).  My daughter loves it.

Lily beige

We’re out tomorrow night, meeting my friends J and L, so tonight I redid my nails in Chanel’s Lily Beige.

It’s REALLY old (so has definitely been discontinued) – you can tell when you put it on, it’s all claggy.  I do like the colour, it’s so neutral, there’s almost no difference between the colour of my skin and my nails.  However, eight year old nail varnish that is right down to the bottom of the bottle isn’t useful any more so this bottle is going in the bin.
