Hackney Empire

So yesterday, we took my son and his friend to see Jack and the Beanstalk at the Hackney Empire.  I’d never been here before but it is actually a very smart theatre.

We had AWESOME seats – right at the front, in the centre, in the Upper Circle.  When I booked the tickets, I forgot that I am rather terrified of heights and had a moment of vertigo when I first sat down.  However, I adjusted after a while and had a lovely time.

I’m sorry – I know that my photos are quite dark but I hate using a flash in a restaurant or theatre – I think it’s a bit antisocial.  I also didn’t take any photos of the pantomime itself because I think that’s also a bit obnoxious.

It was just over two and a half hours long (including the interval), which was slightly too long but the boys had a nice time.  They found the bits where people squirted stuff in each other’s faces particularly funny.  And the jokes about wee.  This is as it should be, they are four.

For some reason my seat had a Phil Collins plaque

I definitely plan to go again next Christmas – I’ll just put a reminder in my calendar to book the tickets at the start of October.
